7. Falcons are synonymous with the art of falconry, in fact a person who trained and hunted with falcons was known as a falconer. A person who hunted with hawks was known as an austringer. Most people are usually surprised to see the size of falcons, expecting them to be quite large. In fact the largest falcons are not much bigger than a crow. For this reason falcons themselves can become prey to other birds of prey. This is also the reason why our trained falcons are perched under a screened area called the falcon shelters. In the shelters you will view falcons from five different continents. Falcons may not be very impressive while sitting on their perch however you will quickly appreciate their ability when you watch them fly in our daily demonstration.
