2. A mew is a hawk or falcon house where trained birds are kept in the off hunting season. Mews are specially designed to prevent birds of prey, which are wild by nature, from injuring themselves. You will see that mews are small in size with solid walls and a window with bars. In the mews you will see a variety of raptors including eagles, falcons, hawks and owls. Some were trained previously, some are still very wild and some may be the young of the year. Of interest, Buckingham Palace still have the "royal mews", though the falcons are now gone. To see the raptors reserved for Kings and Emperors, proceed to the Eagle Wall, marked number 3, click here.
